Starbucks, the famous American food and drink chain are planning to serve wine and beer at a selection of their Chicago establishments. The company would like to attract more customers to their cafés during the after work hours. Furthermore, the multinational company would also like to offer live shows as well as a greater variety of savoury dishes in their stores.
According to The Daily Mail newspaper, Starbuck’s new project will be implemented by the end of 2012. The chain will not be introducing this system to all its cafés and at present they will not be introducing alcoholic drinks to their European businesses. This is not the first time that Starbucks will be selling alcoholic beverages in the United States. Currently 6 Starbucks establishments on the north-western coast have alcoholic drinks on the menu. Most of Starbucks sales are concentrated in the morning. The affluence of customers tends to drop off especially towards the end of the afternoon.
The company has announced that they will be introducing simpler dishes to their menu and that wine and beer will only be offered in the early evening. Starbucks explains that after a day at work, customers will be able to relax and have a coffee or a glass of wine. In this way, children will be able to enjoy a snack or an evening meal in the same place as the adults.
It all comes down to which wines they will be serving their customers… so far they have not disclosed this information.
